Job Description Summary

The Lazard Private Capital Advisory (“PCA”) Group is a global leader in raising capital, executing secondary transactions, and providing capital solutions for private investment funds. The team has over 50 professionals with offices in the U.S., Europe and Asia. PCA clients include private equity, real estate, debt and infrastructure investment managers and institutional investors who pursue investment opportunities within these alternative investment spaces. The group has four lines of business:

 

  • Private Equity Fund Placement: Raises institutional capital for buyout, growth capital, distressed, and turnaround fund managers.

  • Private Debt Fund Placement: Raises institutional capital for credit, debt, and mezzanine fund managers.

  • Real Estate Fund Placement: Raises institutional capital for real estate fund managers.

  • Private Capital Solutions: Advises institutional investors in sales of existing private fund investments and financial sponsors in liquidity solutions transactions and direct company capital raisings.

 

The team is comprised of two primary functions: transaction management and investor coverage. The transaction management team works closely with our clients and is responsible for evaluating potential new business opportunities, preparing the offering materials to take a transaction to market, preparing and updating due diligence materials, managing the due diligence process and effectively coordinating roadshows. The investor coverage team is located across multiple offices and has highly cultivated relationships with more than 1,500 institutional investors globally, including public and corporate pension funds, endowments and foundations, financial institutions, fund of funds managers, family offices, and sovereign wealth funds. The transaction management and investor coverage teams collaborate in order to ensure a targeted and effective marketing process.

 

This business combines investment banking activity (deal origination, due diligence, strategic and financial advice, structuring and execution) with capital markets functions (sales and distribution). The group is a recognized market leader.

 

About the Analyst Role

 

The Private Capital Advisory group is seeking to recruit an Analyst to join the team based in New York. Typically, an Analyst is staffed with two or more of Lazard’s senior professionals to work on a fundraising or private capital solution project. Analysts are engaged in all of the activities of the group and will have extensive contact with clients, Lazard’s investor coverage professionals and institutional investors during each project.

 

Analysts’ specific duties include:

  • Preparing presentation materials for prospective clients;

  • Analyzing alternative investment portfolios and underlying company/fund valuations and assisting in the due diligence of prospective transactions through a variety of financial/industry analyses;

  • Assisting in the preparation of marketing materials, including investor presentation materials, private placement memoranda and confidential information memoranda;

  • Managing the roadshow, travel and related logistics of capital raising activities;

  • Communicating regularly with Lazard’s institutional investor coverage professionals;

  • Assisting in preparing responses to investor due diligence requests;

  • Maintaining a database of investor commentary, feedback and interest in a particular transaction;

  • Organizing the due diligence process (online dataroom, meetings, conference calls, etc.); and

  • Tracking market data to assist in the group’s communications with prospective clients and investors.


Qualifications

  • Academic excellence;

  • Strong quantitative background and analytical skills coupled with attention to detail; basic understanding of financial modeling and valuation is a plus;

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;

  • Excellent organizational skills and capacity to multi-task;

  • Strong interpersonal skills and motivation to work as a team player;

  • Willing to work hard in an unstructured environment which values initiative, creativity, maturity and enthusiasm for learning; and

  • Genuine interest in financial services, private equity, and other alternative investment strategies.
